File Manager V3.0 - by Steve Mills 100014,1312 ---------------------------------------------- Was the original version. File Manager V3.0d -------------------- This is the german version, altered in screenhandling, so that it would work on a Serie 3 with its limited display. You have to alter the location of the necessary font TINY.FON, in order to fit your directory. Much luck with this really good software, made by Steve Mills! Erich Reitinger, Vienna, Austria 1. SYNOPSIS -------- File Manager V3.0 (FMGR3) has been designed to run on the Psion Series 3a palmtop computer. FMGR3 is supplied both as an executable OPO program and as the original OPL source program. You may modify it if you wish; and it could probably be adapted to work on the S3 given a redesign of the main screen layout. FMGR3 will search from a given point on a device, down through all subdirectories below that point, looking for files that match a given file name mask. It will then either display the results, showing all of the attributes for each file, or will print the results. If the results are being displayed then multiple files may be selected and these files can then be Copied, Moved, Deleted or their originating applications can be automatically launched from within FMGR3. This function is a significant advantage over the Psion's built-in find file mechanism which will only launch files of the type matching the application from where you started the search. 3. PROGRAM OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS ------------------------------ 3.1 Search Dialog On entering FMGR3 an initial search dialog is displayed. It has the following fields of information:- File Mask This is the pattern of files to be searched for and may include an initial path. It is a standard Psion file spec and has all of the usual components:- LOC:: or REM:: : \\ name.ext All parts of this specification are optional and any parts of this specification which are missing will be filled in using the current system defaults. Examples:- LOC::M:\*.* *.WRD LOC::M:\*.WRD B:\*.SPR LOC::B:\*.SPR B: LOC::B:\*.* REM::C:\TEMP\*.TXT REM::C:\TEMP\*.TXT REM::C:\TEMP REM::C:\TEMP.* REM::C:\TEMP\ REM::C:\TEMP\*.* Output to Choice field: or Print device Default: PAR:A - any valid file or device name can be entered here. Only used if "Output to" is PRINTER. On pressing enter, FMGR will then retrieve all matching files, working its way from the given start point down through all lower level directories, and either print them, or display them on the form described below. The printing mechanism assumes that the "printer" will understand Epson/IBM compatible codes to select and de-select compressed print mode operation, and that form feed characters will be understood. The sum total file size of all files listed will be printed at the end of the report. Pressing Escape from this panel ends the program. 3.2 Main Display The display is in tabular form with a special bottom line. The columns of the tabular format are as follows:- A ACTION - this is initially empty. You enter action codes in here (described below) to carry out actions on your files. The cursor is always in this field. NAME The full name of the file (e.g. FAXHDR.WRD) SIZE The size of the file in bytes File attribute flags. Each is either Y or N SYS SYSTEM R/O READ ONLY HID HIDDEN MOD MODIFIED DATE Date last modified TIME Time last modified The special bottom line has two fields:- PATH This displays the full device and path name where the file indicated by the current cursor position is located. PAGE This is either a downward arrow symbol (v) indicating that the display can be scrolled downwards, or an upward arrow symbol (^) indicating that the display can be scrolled upwards, or both or neither as the case may be. Valid options at this point are as follows:- 1. Enter action codes against one or more particular files, then press ENTER 2. Press PgDn (if the page down indicator is showing) 3. Press PgUp (if the page up indicator is showing) 4. Press Escape to return to the Search Dialog panel. 5. Press Help to get a display of the valid action codes 3.2.1 Action Codes Action Codes (plus what happens when Enter is pressed) are as follows:- C - Copy File - Copies files to one or more destinations. When ENTER is pressed the following sequence occurs:- Copy Files Destination or Choosing indicates that all files marked C are to be copied to the same location. Copy ALL marked(C) files to:- Destination: Confirm: or Enter the destination path and press Enter. The files are copied and the ACTION code of C is replaced with an * to indicate that the action has been carried out. WARNING: IF THE DESTINATION ALREADY CONTAINS COPIES OF THESE FILES THEN THOSE COPIES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN WITHOUT WARNING!!! Choosing indicates that each file is to be copied to a different location. The following dialog is produced for each file marked with a C:- Confirm Copy File: Destination: Confirm: or or Pressing ENTER with Confirm=Yes copies the file, overwriting any existing copy of that file at the destination WITHOUT WARNING. Pressing ENTER with Confirm=Skip skips this file and goes on to the next one. Pressing ENTER with Confirm=Quit skips this and all other files marked with a C. M - Move File - Moves files to one or more destinations. This works in exactly the same way as COPY (above). Again, no warnings are given of versions of the file already exist in the destination. D - Delete File - Deletes all files marked with a D. When ENTER is pressed the following sequence occurs:- Delete ALL marked(D) Files Option: or If is chosen then a confirmation panel appears prior to deletion. If is chosen then a confirmation panel is displayed for each file. At the confirmation options and are provided. O - Open Appl'n - Opens the applications that match the files marked O. The following combinations are recognised and will work:- .ODB .DBF Data Application .WRD .TXT Word Application .OPL Program Editor .AGN Agenda .OPO Runs OPO program .SPR Spreadsheet .WVE Recorder Applications Any other files extensions will cause an error message to be displayed. A - Attributes - Enables the files attributes to be changed. A confirmation dialog appears enabling all files selected with A to have their attributes set the same, or for each file to be prompted for separately. An attributes panel will then appear, showing the file name if each file is being set separately, and showing... System Read/Only Hidden Modified N.b. the panel does not indicate what the attribute bytes are currently set to - this can be seen from the tabular display prior to summoning this dialog. Once a file has been deleted or moved its action code will be replaced with a hyphen indicating that no further actions are possible against that file. If an error occurs for a particular file then its action code will be replaced with an exclamation mark ! indicating failure. Where files are executed or copied or have their attributes changed then the action code is replaced with an asterisk * to indicate success. 3.2.2 Page Up and Down Page Up and Down are not valid if there are action codes (other than *, - and !) or if the appropriate PAGE flag is not set. Where Page Up or Down are attempted and there are action codes outstanding then a dialog appears warning of this fact and giving a choice of forgetting the requested page operation or discarding all of the action codes and continuing with the page operation. 3.2.3 Escape to the Search Dialog After escaping to the Search Dialog, the total file sizes of all files displayed during the current operation is calculated and displayed at the bottom of the panel for 3 seconds. 3.2.4 Help Key The Help Key displays a dialog listing the action codes above. BUG: the list doesn't show A-Attribute but nevertheless the A option works fine. END.
